Restoration of Boavista Obelisk - Monument to the Heroes of the Peninsular War (Porto)

CRERE restored the monument between 2008 and 2009.

Sculptural set authored by Marques da Silva, Maria José Marques da Silva Moreira da Silva, Henrique Moreira, Sousa Caldas and Alves de Sousa. This monument was inaugurated in 1951.

It is a work of historical architectural-sculptural evocation of spectacular grandeur, consisting of an obelisk 45 mt high, surrounded by groups of sculptures in stone and bronze. The top of the obelisk is topped with a sculptural set of 6m where the figure of the eagle (alluding to the Napoleonic army) is overwhelmed by the figure of a lion (alluding to the indomitable spirit of the Portuguese people).

The restoration was achieved by CRERE, who responded to the need for urgent action, in view of the conservation, restoration and maintenance of the Monument and help to preserve this fundamental work of public art.
